Located in the midlands of South Carolina are South Carolina's world famous lakes "Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie" offering an abundance of outdoor activities and warm southern hospitality. Visitors can experience fishing  for trophy sized striped bass, catfish and crappie in our freshwater lakes. Camp alongside the lakes in one of two SC State Parks (Santee and Poinsett) or at one of 41 privately owned campgrounds. Bring along a pair of hiking boots and explore SC's Palmetto Trail that meanders alongside our lakes. Don't forget to pack you golf clubs. Santee Cooper Country offers affordable but challenging golf courses to the novice and seasoned golfers. While visiting, make sure to visit the area's beautiful gardens and historic museums. Come stay and play and create lasting memories. 

Swans on Swan Lake

SWAN LAKE iRIS GARDENS

Swan Lake Iris Gardens is home to the only public park in the United States that to have all eight swan species for visitors to enjoy as they explore the 150 acre park brimming with an extensive plantings of Japanese Iris. The park is a Level II Arboretum and has numerous sculptures and smaller gardens within the park to enjoy. Admission is free to the public. 

Aemrican Revolutionary War reenactment

American Revolutionary War 

More than 17 Revolutionary battles were fought in the area and many historical sites, attractions, trails and murals are available to visit. General Frances Marion "The Swamp Fox" and General Thomas Sumter "The Fighting Gamecock" fought many British dragoons and created a historical region with tales to tell and a chance to study America's history. 

cYpress Gardens

Cypress Gardens is a 170 acre preserve and home to a black water bald/cypress tupelo swamp that have been enjoyed by the public and have been the settings for Hollywood films like the "The Notebook" and "The Patriot." Visitors can meet Boss and Alllie, SC's largest in captivity alligators and enjoy guided boat tours of the swamp.

Mepkin Abby

Located on the banks of the Cooper River, this Catholic monastery offers peace and beauty to those who visit it. Established in 1949, the monastery is open to the public.

Golf

The area's 13+ courses never freeze during the winter months making them available for play year round. Golfer's travel here from all over the country to enjoy the warm climate, affordable green fees and small town atmosphere.

Marinas and Campgrounds

Boating and water sports are a must when visiting Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie. With over 170,000 acres of water and access to the Atlantic Ocean, water enthusiasts have the chance to explore and have fun without feeling crowded. When the sun sets, enjoy a campfire with family and friends while listening to the soothing sounds of lapping water on the shores the lakes.
