Hunting Island State Park
Take a walk along the island's pristine, sandy beach and pitch a tent at the area's campground. And don't forget to climb the steps of the lighthouse, which is the only one in the state open to the public. At the top, you'll catch a breathtaking view of the ocean, beach and marshland.
Frampton Plantation
Originally part of a king's grant to the Frampton family in the 1700's, the plantation was burned to the ground by General Sherman's troops before being rebuilt in 1868. Visitors can see the charming plantation home, complete with 20th-century renovations like indoor plumbing.
Annual Hampton County Watermelon Festival
For over 70 years, the residents of Hampton County have set aside one week in the summer that is dedicated to the watermelon. This one-of-a-kind festival features petting zoos, concerts, a street dance, 5K run and, of course, a watermelon eating contest.
